Project Director for WSOS Development Centre and new Technical Delegate for WorldSkills Europe selected

Katri Pokkinen has been selected Project Director for the new WSOS Development Centre, hosted by Skills Finland. Vesa Iltola will start in 2023 as Technical Delegate for WorldSkills Europe.

Pokkinen_Katri.jpgKatri Pokkinen has been selected as Project Manager for the WorldSkills Occupational Standards Development Centre. Katri, who currently teaches hairdressing in Careeria vocational college, has a diverse background in skills competitions. After competing in the Finnish national skills competition Taitaja in 1998 and in WorldSkills Seoul in 2001, she has worked as a trainer and as an Expert in various WorldSkills competitions. Since 2017 Katri has been the Skills Competition Manager in hairdressing skill. Besides skills competitions, Katri has been involved in several international projects during her career.

− I am so excited to be part of this project and this community of expertise. I have always been found of international projects and look forward to working for the centre, Katri says.

Katri will start as Project Manager on 1 April 2022. She will work for the WSOS Development Centre together with Project Assistant Emmi-Maria Husu.

The WorldSkills Occupational Standards Development Centre will provide a new platform for the development of VET. It offers new type of cooperation opportunities for education providers, companies, and organisations.

The new Finnish Technical Delegate for WorldSkills Europe starts in 2023

Tapio Kattainen, who has represented Finland as Technical Delegate for WorldSkills Europe since 2012, will step down from his role after this year.

− I want to thank my employer Business College Helsinki from this chance to represent Finland in WSE. I have experienced a lot during the skills competition travels. Seeing the Finnish competitors and experts thrive has given me a lot of joy over the years. Nevertheless, the time goes by and now it was time to pass this role to Vesa’s strong shoulders, Tapio says.

Iltola_Vesa.jpgVesa Iltola will start as Finnish Technical Delegate on 1 January 2023. He will prepare for the role working as Technical Delegate Assistant in 2022.

Vesa has a long background in national and international skills competition roles. He has worked as a trainer and as an Expert in graphic design since 2008. Vesa is also a member of the WorldSkills Experts Faculty. Since early 2022 Vesa has worked as Project Manager in a joint project by Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia and JAMK University of Applied Sciences, that organises the Expert training together with Skills Finland.

− I am very excited about this opportunity and grateful for being encouraged to seek this role. It’s great that my employer Gradia supports me and makes the TD role possible for me. I also want to thank Tapio Kattainen for mentorship and help in both national and international tasks during all these years. I hope to be able to fill Tapio’s shoes and to be worthy of this demanding role.  As a Technical Delegate I expect to gain new skills and knowledge that benefit skills competitions, Vesa says.
