Call for competitors for Finland’s Abilympics national team

Finland will host the international Abilympics vocational skills competition for the first time in Helsinki in May 2027. The event will take place at Messukeskus Helsinki from May 10–13, 2027, as part of the Skills Games 2027 mega-event, which combines Abilympics and the Finnish national skills competition, Taitaja.

Skills Finland is responsible for assembling the national team, appointing team leaders, and managing the overall training program, including organizing training camps, coordinating communications, and providing team uniforms.

Previous Finnish Abilympics teams have included only students currently enrolled in vocational education. For the 2027 home event, our national team is also open to skilled professionals already working in the field.

Educational institutions, organizations, and companies can nominate their own candidate for the team. If there are multiple candidates for the same skill category, a qualifying competition will be held in April–May 2026. Team leaders will interview all candidates before making the final selections.

Each candidate’s sponsoring organization will appoint a coach. We aim to ensure that as many coaches as possible are also qualified to serve as judges.

The final Finnish national team will be confirmed in October–November 2026.

Training and Preparation

All selected competitors will participate in mandatory national team training camps, online meetings, and coaching from November 2026 through spring 2027. The camps focus on practicing competition skills, strengthening well-being, and building team spirit. Coaches and judges will also attend the camps and their own judge training sessions.
